Moe's Knee Surgery

Organized by Carly & Laura

Moe's Surgery
An update on Moe:

We've made it to our fundraising goal! Though the counter says 55%, we also had an immensely successful yard sale that allowed us to raise the rest of the money. And just in time, because Moe will be having his surgery tomorrow.

Those of you who donated and received the email update know that there was a possibility that amputation would be necessary for Moe, and sadly that is the case. His leg is just too damaged to save. There was an experimental surgery option that would have left Moe with a completely straight leg (no knee joint), but there was no guarantee it would have worked, and would have left Moe with only a partially functional leg. As well, he wouldn't have been able to have the surgery for about 7 months, and would have had to wear a cast until then. Since his current cast has made him very uncomfortable and unhappy, we didn't think that was feasible. Moe went for his first proper walk the other day (!) and we don't want him to have to wait months for the next one.

We've also heard from tons of dog owners and vets who say that dogs adapt very quickly to having three legs. Since Moe is so young and so smart, we think he'll be running with the best of them in no time.

Though we're sad that someone allowed this to happen to Moe, we're really thankful that he was able to be rescued from the mill, and will get to live a full, happy life with a loving family. We're also grateful to have discovered how many wonderful people there are out there - we received donations from both friends and strangers, and it was really heartwarming to know so many people who had never met Moe cared about him so much.

We'll send an email update in a few days, once Moe has had the chance to recover from his surgery a bit. Thank you so much to all of you!!!
Thank you!
A quick update for everyone - our fundraising is on fire! With the money we've made through amazingly generous online donations, and our yard sale yesterday, we're so close to our goal!

Moe has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon tonight, where we'll find out what the surgery will entail and exactly how much is will cost. In the event that we have any extra money above and beyond the cost of the surgery (which is something I never dreamed would happen when we started raising money), it will be donated to the rescue organizations that Laura fosters dogs from. They do amazing work, saving dogs like Moe every week.

You are all the best!
It's Moe
Thanks to everyone for your donations so far! It means so much to us and to Moe. The kindness of friends and strangers alike has been astounding. Here's a picture of Moe after his bath, guaranteed to add 400% more adorableness to your day.

Help fix Moe's knee
Moe came to us from a puppy mill in Quebec. He's 12 weeks old, and the most gorgeous puppy we've ever seen. But he suffered a broken knee at the puppy mill - an injury that was cruelly left untreated. He now has a twisted front leg that makes it very difficult for him to walk.

Moe needs surgery to fix his knee, and he needs to have it as soon as possible, before he grows too much and his bones are set. The surgery is going to cost between $1000-2000, which the rescue can't afford, and neither can we.

We're trying to raise the money for Moe to have his surgery. Any amount you can donate will help make a huge difference for Moe - it will be the difference between a wonderful life full of long walks, runs in the park, and general puppy playfulness, and a life of pain and difficulty. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell anyone you know who loves animals and would like to help a puppy in need. We'll love you forever!
